Kensington Gardens
Together, Hyde Park , St James's Park and Green Park, form an almost continuous stretch of parkland covering over 700 acres of land, just slightly smaller than New York's Central Park.
With Hyde Park to the east, Kensington Palace to the west and the Royal Albert Hall to the south, Kensington Gardens has some great sites to admire close by and makes a great picnic spot in fine weather. The Princess Diana Memorial Playground in the north-west of the park includes a giant wooden pirate ship, which is a hit with children and is completely free of charge.
For culture vultures, the Serpentine Gallery focuses on modern and contemporary art and receives around 750,000 visitors a year. Artists who have exhibited here include Andy Warhol and Damien Hirst.
The Albert Memorial, in the south of the Park, was commissioned by Queen Victoria in memory of her husband and is an interesting sculpture worthy of a few photos.
In addition to this, statues of Peter Pan, the Italian Gardens, a bandstand, cafes and ponds, make for a pleasant excursion.
