Piccadilly Circus
Contrary to the name, Piccadilly Circus isn't a circus at all but a busy road junction that connects five busy streets including Regent Street and Piccadilly. The 'Circus' comes from the Latin meaning 'circle'.
Its location makes it a gateway to much of London's nightlife. Most of the West End theatres are within a few minutes walk as are some of the city's larger night clubs.
Soho and Trafalgar Square are within an easy walk and its popularity as a meeting point with both locals and visitors make it one of the most visited areas in London.
By day the area is busy with a mix of tourists, shoppers and workers and by night it is a thriving centre instantly recognisable by the huge neon billboards which adorn several buildings
People gather round the famous statue, which has become known as 'Eros' although its name is actually the 'Angel of Charity'.
