Royal Opera House
Home to the Royal Opera and the Royal Ballet, the Royal Opera House is not only a must for opera and ballet lovers alike, but is also a not-to-be-missed historic venue, situated in the heart of Covent Garden. The original theatre was completed in 1732 and boasted Handel as its musical director, who gave regular performances there, including his 'Messiah'.
The current building is the third one to have been built on this site, the first two having been destroyed by fire. Major reconstruction and renovation has taken place in recent years and the resulting complex, although still housing a traditional horse-shaped auditorium, is now claimed to be the most modern theatre facility in Europe, providing world-class productions featuring world-class performers.
