St James's Palace

St James's Palace is situated to the north of St James's Park in Pall Mall, with Buckingham Palace close by.

Commissioned by Henry VIII in 1532, it is one of the oldest palaces in London and has been the location of many historical events and residence to many Kings and Queens.

Today, St James's Palace is closed to the public, as it is still a working palace including the State Apartments used for State visits and ceremonial functions and is also the London residence of the Princess Royal and Princess Alexandra. Within the Palace complex are York House and Clarence House, the residence of the Prince of Wales.

Visitors can browse through Friary Court and see the Changing of the Guard and the surviving Gatehouse on the north side. The public can also attend the church services at the Chapel Royal where Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were married in 1840.
