Annual Events

There are several major sporting events held annually in London.

The winner of the oldest football competition in the world, the F.A Cup is crowned each May when the final is played at Wembley Stadium .

Carling League Cup Final

Also held at Wembley stadium the Carling League Cup final is generally played at the end of February each year.

Community Shield

The Community Shield is the first game of the new season and is played between the winner of the F.A Cup and the winner of the English Premiership at Wembley Stadium in August.

The oldest major tennis championship is held every year for two weeks from late June to Mid July. Men's and Ladie's Singles, Men's, Ladie's and Mixed Doubles along with the tradition of strawberries and cream make a great day out.

Sharing a place with New York, Boston, Chicago and Berlin, the London Marathon is one of the World Marathon Majors.

Held from early February to mid March, the international rugby union tournament for the Northern Hemisphere is the Six-Nations. England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, France and Italy all play each other and Twickenham is the venue for all of England's home games.

Dating back to the early 1800's the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race sees teams from the UK's top two universities take to the River Thames and race the 6.7 kilometre course that starts at Putney Bridge.
