Night Clubs
When it comes to clubbing London offers something to suit every occasion, taste and budget. Below is a handful of some of the bigger clubs offering a range of evenings out, where the focus is on the music.
A predictable entry in our round-up of London's clubs, this world-famous super-club and the A-list DJs who play there are still delivering quality nights 17 years on. Other than a truly awesome sound system, don't expect elaborate distractions. This place is about three things - music, music, music!
Sporting a sound system with a bone-shaking, resonating dance floor acting as one big bass bin, Fabric is edgy and supplies a wide range of dance genres covering drum'n'bass, house, techno and electro. With top-flight DJs, an unpretentious crowd and no dress code, Fabric's only real drawback is that it really does get rammed!
The exquisite decor of world-famous Pacha provides a venue for clubbers who want a 'beutiful' environment as well quality tunes on the dance floor. With music from the likes of Hed Kandi and Miss Moneypenny's, Pacha brings a touch of Balearic glamour to London. Note: strict door policies apply.
Flying the flag for underground dance in London for over a decade, The End attracts a cool crowd of music lovers, many who will tell you they think it is the best club in London. Whilst not so underground these days, Groove Armada have a residency here and names likes Laurent Garnier and Circo Loco perform here regularly. No dress code.
This club finds itself in our humble little guide for only one reason, which is its status as a famed celebrity hang-out. It has an extremely strict door policy, which means you won't get in unless you are invited, you're ridiculously wealthy or really are famous. We were not allowed in to review the club so we can only tell you of the unconfirmed reports we heard from other people which are that the toilets need fixing, the drinks are watered down and it smells of an old people's home. What's more the music really is cheesy.
Set in the converted St Matthew's Church, Mass is a multipurpose venue located in the heart of vibrant and multicultural Brixton, a hotbed of new musical talent crossing every genre. Popular events such as 'Rodigans Reggae', 'Tasty', 'Torture Garden', 'Trouble on Vinyl' and 'Valve' regularly host parties with top artists.
London's largest gay and lesbian party, G-A-Y has an enviable reputation of offering outstanding Saturday night personal appearances, from top international artists such as Donna Summer, Kylie Minogue and the Spice Girls. Attitude free, camp and cruisy, the club events happen at the Astoria on Mon, Thu, Fri and Sat, whilst the G-A-Y Bar on Compton street is open all week.
