The Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race

March 29th, River Thames, Start 17:15

Dating back to 1812, the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race sees teams from England's two most prestigious Universities take to the River Thames to tackle a gruelling 6.7 kilometre course, in what has now become perhaps the most famous rowing event in the world.

Over 250,000 people crowd the banks of the River Thames to watch the event, which is also televised around the world to estimated TV audiences of around 100 million.

Considering the length of time the event has been running, the scores for the "series" are surprisingly close. Cambridge lead with 79 wins to Oxford's 73, with one dead heat declared in 1877.

The Route runs from Putney, SW15 to Mortlake, SW14
