Mobile FAQs

The process of designing mobile software would be a much easier task if it weren't for the huge number of different handsets on the market each with their own, often unique, technical specification.

To solve this issue we have taken a simple approach and designed a website that is optimised for use with a mobile phone. This way we can be sure that the as long as your mobile phone is capable of viewing web pages you can use our product regardless of your handsets manufacturer or your network provider.

Q. How do I download the London Travel Guide for my mobile?
A. Since there are so many mobile phone handsets each with their own unique settings and features, creating downloadable software that is compatible with all handsets is a near impossible task. For that reason our mobile guides are accessed via the internet and so compatible with almost all mobile phones that are capable of viewing the web. Easy.
Q. Will you be releasing a downloadable / native version of the guide for Mobiles?
A. We have no plans to develop a native version of the guides although never say never!
Q. Can I send the guide to a friend?
A. Yes. Simply send an SMS text message that contains the phrase "www.londontravelguide.com" this will allow your friend to click on the link and view the London Travel Guide from their Mobile.
Q. Does it cost me to use the service?
A. London Travel Guide will not charge you to use our service although your mobile service provider may charge you for accessing the internet. Generally, if there is any charge this is measured by the amount of data you have viewed or downloaded on your phone. For this reason, our mobile guide is really "Light" to download each page. We haven't added any unnecessary graphics that will slow down the guide or clock up bandwidth on your phone. If you wish to download a video then we would recommend you do check your tariff.
Q. I can't view the mobile guide on my phone
A. You could try downloading a different web browser for your mobile phone, we recommend either Yahoo [http://mobile.yahoo.com/] or Opera [http://www.operamini.com/]. If that doesn't work we can only suggest you should upgrade your phone!
Q. I can not view the videos on my phone
A. Our mobile video are encoded in .3gp file format which is the industry standard for mobile video. If your phone does not support this video format then you can not view the video on your mobile.
