Wellington Arch

Now standing on Hyde Park Corner, Wellington Arch was commissioned by George IV and was originally an outer entrance to Buckingham Palace but was moved to its current location in 1882.

Sitting above the giant arch is the largest bronze sculpture in Europe, which depicts the Angel of Peace descending on the chariot of war.

The Arch is hollow with three floors and once served as one of London's smallest police stations and it is possible to now take a lift to the balcony. If you are here between 10:30 and 11:00 on a weekday (09:30 and 10:00 on Sundays), you should get a unique view of the Queen's Life Guard as they travel to Horse Guards Parade to change guard.
