The Last Night of the Proms

Saturday 13 September, 2008

Dating back to 1895, the Proms is an annual eight-week summer season of approximately 70 classical concerts, held at the Royal Albert Hall and climaxing with 'The Last Night of the Proms', usually on the second Saturday in September.

The last night is much different to the previous concerts not least because of the extremely relaxed dress code.

A sea of Union flags and dinner jackets is peppered with fancy dress and patriotic costumes as concertgoers bop and sing along to a programme of predominantly British Classics in this orchestral "blow-out".

Tickets for the last night are extremely sought after and it is usually necessary to attend several other performances in the series to become eligible.
