Olympic Torch Relay
In the run-up to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games the ancient tradition of the Torch Relay will begin on March 24th when a concave mirror will be used to light the elegantly designed Beijing Olympic Torch from the sun rays in Olympia, Greece. From here the torch will commence a 130 day journey that will see it cover 130,000 miles before it used to light the Olympic Flame in Beijing on 8th August.
On Sunday April 6th 2008 the Torch comes to London and will be carried by over 80 torch bearers including double Olympic gold medal winner Dame Kelly Holmes and British Institution and broadcaster Sir Trevor McDonald.
The route of the Torch will start at Wembley Stadium which was host to the 1948 games and take in Marble Arch, Oxford Street and Trafalgar Square before finishing at the O2 Stadium in Greenwich which is to be one of the venues for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
