Buses

London's famous red 'Routemaster' double-decker buses have now been phased out and have been superseded by more modern single and double-deckers, with the exception of a couple of 'Heritage Routes' for the nostalgic!

These two Heritage Routes are a great way to travel above ground for sightseeing and, provided you have a one-day Travelcard, you can jump on and off as you wish. The No.9 route travels to and from central London to the West and No.15 to and from central London to the east. Both buses run every 15 minutes and will stop close to many of the attractions listed in this Guide.

If you are in London for any length of time and have a daily routine, then you should check out the various bus routes as there is now only one fare zone for all buses. You can buy a carnet of six tickets (reduced price) in advance from newsagents and tube stations. Tickets have to be bought prior to boarding and there is a fine for travelling without a valid ticket.

Services operate 24 hours a day, with night buses, prefixed by the letter 'N', replacing the standard services on most routes after midnight. Fares on night buses are the same as regular buses.
