Konstam at the Prince Albert
When Head Chef and Owner Oliver Rowe came up with idea that he would be opening a restaurant in King's Cross that sourced all of the produce from the Greater London area he was setting himself the toughest of challenges. You only have to look at a satellite image of London on Google to see that there really isn't much green!
Oliver's quest was that tough that he was followed by a BBC camera crew who documented his journey in a ten-part TV series called 'The Urban Chef' and made the restaurant perhaps one of the most publicised in London.
But what is the food actually like and does it live up to the hype? Well, you will be pleased to know that 'Jellied Eels from the River Thames' or 'Roast Trafalgar Pigeon' are both absent from the menu! Instead you can expect a dynamic menu of hearty British delights that incorporates the produce in season.
As you might expect, thankfully not all of the wines are made in London, or even Britain, for that matter. That said all the beers are brewed in Greenwich and the Chapel Down wines are made nearby in Kent.
The medieval grey colour scheme and the several miles of chains hanging from the ceiling isn't to everyone's taste, and neither are all the dishes. However, this is the only restaurant in London where you can eat 'London Food'.
